Final Fantasy XII "Remake" Happening?

Posted on the 2nd August 2015

During the Distant Worlds concert in Pittsburgh, composer Arnie Roth announced to the crowd that there is a Final Fantasy XII "remake" coming later this year. Do take that with a pinch of salt though, if true, it will likely only be a remaster like that of the Final Fantasy X|X-2 collection which is not entirely a bad thing anyway.

Other details such as platform(s), release date, etc was obviously not announced but if what he says holds true then expect details at this years Tokyo Game Show or during one of Square Enix Presents streams like the recent Dragon Quest XI announcement.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Steam Release Set

Posted on the 28th July 2015

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for PC (well Steam) has now got a final release date of the 18th August 2015.

Square Enix said the Steam version of the fantasy role-playing game has an improved in-game battle camera, full Steam achievements and trading cards, scalable motion blur settings and a customisable dynamic screen shot mode. There's also controller support and upgraded graphics resolution levels.

There's also a curious crossover with Valve's MOBA, Dota 2. If you pre-purchase Final Fantasy Type-0 HD on Steam you get the Master Chocobo as your courier and Moogle (Class Zero) as your ward in Dota 2, as well as a Final Fantasy Type-0 HD loading screen.

E3'15 - Final Fantasy VII Remake Announced

Posted on the 20th June 2015

Part of my E3 2015 Recap.

One of Square Enix's biggest announcements (along with the new RPG, Project Setsuna), was the reveal that Final Fantasy VII will indeed be getting a remake with PlayStation 4 players getting it first.

Currently still in early developments so I would not expect to see this game anytime soon (2016/17 but most likely 2017) but Square Enix have confirmed they will reveal more information this winter.

E3'15 - Kingdom Hearts III Gameplay Trailer

Posted on the 20th June 2015

Part of my E3 2015 Recap.

I know you may be thinking why am I covering Kingdom Hearts, firstly because it has Final Fantasy characters included but also because I loved the first two main games!

As the title says, this is the first proper gameplay trailer since they moved production from the Luminous Engine to the Unreal 4 Engine and boy does it look good.

E3'15 - World of Final Fantasy Announced

Posted on the 20th June 2015

Part of my E3 2015 Recap.

First up we have World of Final Fantasy for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita (yes, the Vita!) that is based on the story of two siblings on a grand quest about memories. You fight against and alongside familiar and new creatures (basically Dragon Quest Monsters but with Final Fantasy and a cute style).

For now, enjoy the announcement trailer;-

Heavensward Early Access Information

Posted on the 8th June 2015

As the official release of Heavensward, Final Fantasy XIV's first expansion since relaunch, draws ever closer we have information on how to get Early Access all ready before that starts on the 19th June.

Now there are a few requirements before you get started;

  • Must possess an active Final Fantasy XIV service account on your Square Enix Account.
  • Must possess an early access code for the platform that you currently use to play the game.
  • Must have registered your Early Access code via the steps below in “Early Access Registration”.
  • Early access is not available for the Final Fantasy XIV Online all-in-one bundle.
  • Also, in order to enter the new areas being introduced in Heavensward, you will need to have completed the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn main scenario quest “Before the Dawn” that was implemented in Patch 2.55

Once you have done all that, head over to the Lodestone for information on the platform you play on.

Enjoy!

Final Fantasy XV Active Time Report 6.0

Posted on the 4th June 2015

Sorry meant to post this on the 4th June but better late then never eh?

Square Enix Presents has released another Active Time Report for Final Fantasy XV with Tabata-san covering the upcoming changes to the Episode Duscae demo, staff involved, and the differences to Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Tabata confirmed that much of what we've seen of Versus XIII had been ditched, calling the shift to XV a "reboot" (much like A Realm Reborn - which might I add is very good). The story, for example, has undergone significant changes. "After we had switched from Versus to 15, the first decision we made was to make sure that FFXV would have a complete, coherent story in one game," he said.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Steam Release

Posted on the 2nd June 2015

Does seem like Square Enix are pretty serious with getting their PC support better and this time it is Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for Steam.

There is yet to be a release date but there will be new graphical options for high-end PC users added, as well as improved battle and camera controls and Steam community features.

Unfortunately it will not include the Final Fantasy XV demo as this is still a PlayStation 4 / Xbox One exclusive though I would hazard a guess this will change in the times ahead.

New Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Videos

Posted on the 21st May 2015

With the release of Heavensward looming ever closer, Square Enix has released a few videos showing off some new bits and bobs.

First up with have the theme for Heavensward composed by Nobuo Uematsu;

Next up is a trailer showcasing new job actions;

And finally (though I have not embedded), is footage of the new dungeons coming in Heavensward;

E3 2015, Final Fantasy XI, and the future

Posted on the 17th May 2015

So E3 2015 is quickly approaching with Square Enix holding a press conference this year which they haven't done since 2009. This could mean they have some pretty big announcements planned though you can expect Final Fantasy XV, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and Rise of Tomb Raider to be there. Unfortunately for me I will be on holiday that week and unable to post any news fresh as it comes in so will do a recap the week later with hopefully videos and screenshots for your viewing pleasure.

For those wanting to watch the stream live without thousands of comments popping up then head over to the E3 Telly section for all the latest broadcasts. (link to be added soon)

As some of you know, Final Fantasy XI is in its final year of updates with the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 versions to close afterwards so unfortunately I will no longer be thinking about making content for it and instead focus on all the other games. The current content will stay live but will no longer be updated.

On the note about the future of Final Fantasy Skies those of you who follow me on Twitter will know I am recoding the site due to changes with Google. This may affect certain design elements but hopefully not too drastic. What does it mean you may be asking, well simpley put it will become much easier to view FFSkies on mobile devices (be it Android, iOS, or Windows). However I do have some Final Fantasy X content nearly ready so will finish that before the recode starts.

Final Fantasy Type-Next Artwork Displayed

Posted on the 23rd March 2015

Over in Hong Kong for the release of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Square Enix showed off some concept art for Final Fantasy Type-Next.

Hajime Tabata apparently began production on this after they had finished the original Final Fantasy Type-0 for PSP but since taking over as director for Final Fantasy XV this has been put on hold. For now, here are some pictures taken from the event: (thanks to gamestalk.net)

One can not help but think this could be the next console RPG that president Yosuke Matsuda was on about.
