MARK HUNTING
Your goal in this somewhat big side-quest is to defeat 45 Mark monsters.
Marks are the monsters that you are asked to hunt by Petitioners. By Looking at the individual Hunt Bill on the Noticboard, you can determine the Mark's vital statistics, including its name and rank. There are eight different ranks of Marks I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, with I being the easiest and VIII being the hardest.
Generally Marks are much more powerful then your general foe you will face on the field for the area it is in.
RANK I
| Rank I Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Rogue Tomato | Tomaj (Rabanastre; The Sandsea) | - | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 2 | 134 | 300 Gil, Potion x2, Teleport Stone | Dalmasca Estersand; The Stepping | After Tomaj tasks you with the first hunt |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| Keep attacking it until it jumps off the cliff to try and escape. Follow it down (you can't jump off) and keep on attacking and healing when needed. Once the creature has only 40% of its HP left it will use Flame Breath which is a powerful attack so be ready to heal yourself. | ||||
| - |
| Rank I Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Thextera | Gatsly (Rabanaster; The Sandsea) | Moppet | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 6 | 380 | 500 Gil, Headguard, Teleport Stone | Dalmasca Westersand; Galtea Downs | After the Lord Consul's parade |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| It is best to wait for Penelo to join your party as this beast calls allies to help it against you. When you find the mark take out the allies first and then concentrate on the mark itself. With Penelo it should not take long to knock its HP to 50% at which point it will summon more Wolves over time, just keep on killing them all and restoring when needed until you finish off the mark. | ||||
| - |
| Rank I Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Flowering Cactoid | Dantro (Dalmasca Estersand; Outpost) | Hedge Knight | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 4 | 755 | 500 Gil, Potion x10 | Dalmasca Estersand; Yardang Labyrinth | After the Lord Consul's parade |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| As this mark does run around from time to time it can be a good idea to clear out surronding foes first before going for the mark. It uses Ram, which you don't have to worry about, Blind which you can counter with Blindna or Eye Drops. You have to look out for its deadly 1000 Needles Technick which will cause alot of damage. It is weak against Aero so that will help to reduce the chance of it using that annoying Technick. | ||||
| - |
| Rank I Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Wraith | Milha (Lowtown; North Sprawl) | Hedge Knight | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 9 | 5,146 | 500 Gil, Ether, Gauntlets | Garamsythe Waterway; Overflow Cloaca | After you leave Barheim Passage and return to Rabanastre |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| It is a good idea to wait until Basch, Fran, and Balthier are in your party since it uses Doom that will KO you in a given amount of time so have Phoenix Downs on the ready. As it is an Undead creature, healing items and Magicks will kill it quickly (such as Cure and Potions), however if you wish to go the standard attcking way you can. | ||||
| - |
| Rank I Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Cluckatrice* | Dania (Giza Plains (Dry); Nomad Village) | Hedge Knight | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 15 | 7,509 | 1000 Gil, Jackboots, Rainbow Egg | Giza Plains (Dry); Gizas North Bank | After you leave Barheim Passage and return to Rabanastre |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| You must first kill everything in the Gizas North Bank, exit and return, this time you will find your mark. A good tactic now is to cast Sleep on each Chickatrice and the Cluckatrice without them seeing you as it will make the following battles easier. Now they are all asleep kill them one by one using Magick attacks that don't wake up the targets. If you do wake them however be sure to be immune to Slow. They also inflict Petrify with their Stone Gaze so counter that with Gold Needles or Stona Magick. | ||||
| - |
| Rank I Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Rocktoise* | Pilika (Bhujerba; Khus Skygrounds) | Hedge Knight | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 16 | 17,548 | 1200 Gil, Hi-Potion, Heavy Coat | Lhusu Mines; Site 2 | After you leave Barheim Passage and return to Rabanastre |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| To avoid unnecessary damage to yourself, lure him to the entrance of the samll cave and hit him with Magicks and ranged weapons from the safety of the narrow passageway. This tactic will ensure that you will only be exposed to the creature's Magicks which are far weaker than its physical attacks. | ||||
| - |
| Rank I Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Nidhogg | Aekom (Bhujerba; Lhus Square) | Hedge Knight | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 10 | 6,079 | 600 Gil, Rose Corsage, Balaclava | Lhusu Mines; Transitway 1 | After the party is attacked by Ba'Gamnan in Lhusu Mines |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| Wait until you have escaped from the Leviathan as you will have Ashe and Penelo in your party but you also have access to the Sleep Magick in Bhujerba. For an easy victory cast Sleep and use Fire which won't wake it up or cast Blind on it and hit it with pyhsical attacks. Immobilise works well too. | ||||
