MARK HUNTING
Your goal in this somewhat big side-quest is to defeat 45 Mark monsters.
Marks are the monsters that you are asked to hunt by Petitioners. By Looking at the individual Hunt Bill on the Noticboard, you can determine the Mark's vital statistics, including its name and rank. There are eight different ranks of Marks I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, with I being the easiest and VIII being the hardest.
Generally Marks are much more powerful then your general foe you will face on the field for the area it is in.
RANK VII
| Rank VII Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Carrot* | Zammadria (Nalbina Town; Aerodrome) | Brave Companion | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 49 | 110,842 | 5,200 Gil, Stink Bombs, Putrid Liquid | The Salikawood; Sun-dappled Path | After you defeat Judge Bergan |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| Once you enter the Salikawood do not kill a single foe until you reach the Sun-dappled Path. During the battle you will be aided by Krjin the Vieara so start by casting Dispel and Slow on the Mark. From there attack with Holy or Holy-imbuned weapons. When it reaches 50% health where it will cast Growing Threat which will double its level plus it will start using Putrid Breath, which can cause more than 10 different status ailments. | ||||

| Rank VII Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Gilgamesh* | Mountblanc (Rabanastre; Clan Hall) | Brave Companion | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| ** | ** | 10,000 Gil, Masamune | Lhusu Mines; Tasche Span | After you visit Draklor Laboratory |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| This is one interesting Mark with two battles and the option to steal up to 10 items over the two battles. You can steal after 20% of his health is depleted so make sure to steal as this is the only time you can get the Genji gear (he will pass a comment on your performance after each 20% so you can tell when to steal (see 'Items to Steal' table next)).
For the first battle, cast Slow on Gilgames, then focus on Enkidu: Cast Sleep followed by Oil and then Firaga (or Ardour) repeatedly. Once defeated carry on attacking Gilgamesh with non-elemental attacks. When his HP reaches 20% he will throw a Paling and Magick Shield which will make your attacks worthless. At this point concentrate on healing yourself until they fade. Then just defeat him. To finish off what you started you need to make your way to Site 7 but you need the Site 11 Key which is located on the ledge to the right of the Fallen Bhujerban in the north-west of the Phon Coast Hunters' Camp (only after you've defeated Antlion). It is a good idea to level up your characters and to make sure they have an odd level and that is not divisible by 3. Once you are ready head back to Site 9 and unlock the Wrought Iron Gate. From there follow the tunnels round to ht enorth until you reach the Gate Switchboard in the north-west corner. Use it, then head east, all the way to the Staging Area where there is a Save Crystal. Enter Site 7 to face the duo for the final time. Use the same tactics as last time (minus the Slow). Once Enkidu is out of the way, regularly use Dispel on Gilgamesh and cast positive status effects on your team to make the battle easier. Make sure you have Protect and Bubble on all the party to reduce the chance of being wiped oit by the Monarch Sword attack which he will unleash once he reaches 20% HP. |

| Rank VII Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Deathgaze | Traveller (Son); Any Aerodrome | Riskbreaker | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 50 | 184,000 | 3,400 Gil, Elixir x2 | During an Airship flight (increase sighting by 4% each time you talk to the Petitioner, max is 64%. Only increases if you goto a different town each time) | After you leave Barheim Passage and return to Rabanastre |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| When Deathgaze appears, you'll receive a message that it's attacking the ship so volunteer to fight it nd go up to the Air Deck. It will instantly cast a protective Paling on itself, making it immune to physical attacks. Silence it regularly during the fight to stop it from using some fairly brutal magicks, and hit it with some strong Magicks of your own until the shield fades. | ||||

| Rank VII Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Diablos | Miclio (Bhujerba; Miners' End | Brave Companion | ||
| Level: | HP: | Bounty: | Location Found: | Availablitily: |
| 46 | 93,551 | 2,600 Gil, Demon Shield, Zeus Mace | Lhusu Mines; Site 11 | After you leave Barheim Passage and return to Rabanastre |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| You need the Site 11 Key from the Phon Coast Hunters' Camp after defeating the Antlion Mark. Use Dispel and Slow, the launch Water-imbued or non-elemantal attacks. When the mark becomes HP Ctitical, it will conjoure up a barrier to make itself immune to physical-attacks, so switch to strong non-elemental Magicks. | ||||

| Rank VII Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Fafnir | Ieeha and Relj (Mt Bur-Omisace; Temple Approach) | Riskbreaker | ||

| 68 | 1,390,378 | 7,000 Gil, Assassin's Arrows, Teleport Stone | Paramina Rift; Silverflow's End | After you leave Barheim Passage and return to Rabanastre |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| This Mark will only appear if there is a snowstorm so just go back and forth until one occurs. Equip all characters with ranged weapons to keep your distance and regularly cast Reflectga on your party to bounce its Magick. You should also use Dispel and Slow. It's particularly weak against Lightning, so let let rip with Reflected Thundaga or Lightning Arrows if you have them. | ||||

| Rank VII Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Behemoth King | Koqmihn (Rabanastre Lowtown; Dalan's House) | Riskbreaker | ||

| 70 | 1,668,491 | 250 Gil, Bacchus's Wine x2 | The Feywood; The Edge of Reason | After you leave Barheim Passage and return to Rabanastre |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| You need to have defeated Fafnir plus defeated all the enemies in The Edge of Reason and the Ice Field or Clearsight. During this battle, the mark will switch between immunity to physical attacks and immunity to Magick attacks. Hit it with Arise twise, or try casting Balance on it three times when it is immune to physical attacks. Just change between pyhsical and Magick attacks depending on what it is immune to until you defeat it. | ||||

| Rank VII Mark: | Petitioner: | Required Clan Rank: | ||
| Pylraster | Rikken (Balfonheim Port; Saccio Lane) | Riskbreaker | ||

| 63 | 493,513 | 8,000 Gil, Grand Mace, Scathe Mote x2 | Pharos at Ridorana - First Ascent; They Who Thirst Not | After Bahamut has been activated |
| Battle Tactics: | ||||
| Start by casting Dispel and Slow then use Bubble or equip Bubble Belts. It is a good idea to have a tank so equip the tank with Ensanguined Shield, Main Cauche, and Gauntlets (or Jade Collar). Have a spellcaster heal the tank and when not on supportive duties, cast Ardour, and then a damage dealer with a Gungnir Spear attacking. | ||||
